a tattoo is more than just an appointment—it’s a collaboration between your story, or idea, and my craft, or skill. I am dedicated to making each piece intentional, beautiful, deeply personal, and extra spooky, if that’s what you’re into (this holds a dark place in my heart).
An important step in my process is the tattoo consultation. Whether this is your first tattoo or your tenth, knowing what to expect will help you feel confident and prepared, and will help me to more effectively bring your vision to life.
Why a Tattoo Consultation Matters
Your tattoo consultation is where your ideas and my artistry come together. It’s an opportunity to discuss your ideas and inspiration, to ask your questions, all the while exploring design possibilities. While we won’t yet have drafted art in the consultation, this step is important in helping align my art with your style, story, and placement preferences.
What Happens During the Consultation
1. Share Your Idea
You’ll start by talking with me about your concept—whether it’s a detailed idea you’ve been carrying for years or a spark of inspiration you want help shaping. It is important to remember, I only book half days and full days and I specialize in realism. While you can send me references images, sketches, or even words that capture the mood or meaning of what you’re going for, I like to find my own references.
2. Placement and Size Discussion
Placement affects how a tattoo flows with the body and how it ages over time. I will guide you through the best size and placement options, helping you find the balance between aesthetic and longevity.
3. Design Refinement
Based on your input and ideas, I will offer creative suggestions and professional insights. As a realism tattoo artist in Denver, I will consider shading, linework, and detail to ensure your design not only looks striking but also has longevity.
4. Practical Details
The consultation also covers important logistics: estimated session time, pricing, healing expectations, and aftercare recommendations. This ensures you know exactly what to expect when you sit down for your tattoo.
How to Prepare for Your Phone Consultation
Send inspiration: Photos, artwork, or even color palettes can help communicate your vision.
Be open to collaboration: I may suggest adjustments that enhance your design or make it more tattoo-friendly.
Ask questions: This is your chance to discuss everything from style preferences to healing concerns.
After the Consultation
Once your REalism Tattoo consultation is complete, Kelsea will begin preparing your design. Depending on the complexity, you may see sketches before your session, but more it is more likely that your final design will be revealed on the day of your appointment. Either way, you’ll know that the tattoo being created is built on a thoughtful, collaborative foundation.
